Many people join these groups and go to events expecting them to be sort of welcomed with open arms, with everybody introducing themselves, and people going out of their way to make them feel welcome and part of the group. And maybe that WILL happen, but you can’t expect it. The other guys there are there because they want to have a good time, and most of them will probably spend the bulk of the time talking to the people they already know. That’s just human nature – people find it less stressful talking to people they already have met and gotten to know.
So assume that when you go, the onus will be on you. YOU will need to introduce yourself to others, and YOU will need to initiate the lion’s share of conversations. Chances are everybody will be friendly and open to chat with a newbie, but you’ll still have to make the overtures yourself.
To ease the pressure and help you overcome these issues, CBL has initiated a First Timers Orientation at all our sizable events. This will help you understand the event and meet a group of guys who you will automatically have something in common with. Hope to see you there!
Have a great time. Rawr!
